We’re delighted to offer you a variety of delicious artisan-crafted loose teas. All tea comes from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, but all tea should not be prepared the same. A few simple rules-of-thumb will greatly improve the enjoyment of and provide a richer experience. Kindly note that, depending on variety and/or blends, each tea has an optimal brewing approach and time for optimal flavor and enjoyment.
Hot-brew benefit – stronger flavor, better base for milk and additions (soy, coconut milk), higher caffeine content. Time 2-7 minutes.
Cold-brew benefit – clean, complex, crisp infusions that are low in caffeine and tannins. Time 10-40 minutes or overnight (12 hours) in the refrigerator. NOTE: we do not recommend sun tea
Green teas benefit from short brewing times and lower water temperatures. Note that longer exposure to water can yield an increasingly bitter note. TIP A ¼ cup of cold water to 1.75 cups (16 oz.) of boiling water will cool the water sufficiently before steeping.
Hot-brew – Steep 2-3 minutes with steaming water (185° degrees)
Cold-brew – Steep 10-15 minutes with cold water. Add ice, sugar and garnishments* (citrus wedges, cucumber, fresh mint or basil) as desired.
Black teas deliver strong, rich flavor with short brewing times and hold milk well.
Hot-brew – Steep 2-4 minutes with rapidly boiling water (212° degrees)
Cold-brew – Steep 15-40 minutes with cold water. Add ice, sugar and garnishments* as desired.
White teas require slightly longer brewing times with lower water temperatures, to bring out the best flavor.
Hot-brew – Steep 5-7 minutes with steaming water (185° degrees)
Cold-brew – Steep up to 15-40 minutes with cold water. Add ice, sugar and garnishments* as desired.
